Quite a bit has been going on lately, but I'll keep it short...

  • 3/13/08 Update

Just a small update... friends list is working yet again, and I put a stat pub back up after ages of none being available (more to come soon probably). I also cleaned up the database quite a bit which resulted in removing thousands of accounts and many clans as well. Everyone who didn't have any stats tracked for them along with all the clans that hadn't played any matches have been removed. (10 additional accounts that for some reason didn't have an email address associated with them were also removed despite having stats.)

Everyone should attempt to log in to see if their account is still active. If it is, you're good to go. If not, you can try to retrieve your password by entering the email address you put in at registration time. If you still can't find your account, you'll have to remake it to make use of the friends list and tracked stats.

Now, accounts require email verification. I actually enabled this a couple days ago, but had a problem in there that resulted in all the accounts created in the last day or two to not work. Those of you who've tried to create an account in this time, my apologies, but if you should be able to do so successfully now.

Again, I'll remind -- only one account per person. Also, if you don't intend on being competitive with a clan, please don't make one.

Enjoy and have fun in the stat pubs!

  • Some game reports (only noticeable ones are ladder matches as I don't know who played in what pub) are coming up missing players. While the score is still correct for each match and thus gives the winning clan the credit for the win, this is still not good. This will be looked into, but for those of you who want to continue using the ladder, it will be required of you to record a console log of your ladder games to ensure statistical accuracy. To create a console log, you type "set c_debug true" in your console before the games. After the games are over, go to your baboviolent folder and find the file that gets created (I believe it's called console.log and can be found in the main\ folder of your baboviolent folder) and make a copy of it (rename it so something such as "clan1_vs_clan2_date-goes-here.txt") in case there is a reporting error. Then check the "Recent Games" section of the site and make sure all the players that were in the match have been reported. (If they show up, it should be good to go -- no need to compare stats as the problem was just that players weren't being reported at all.

If you do not create a console log and there is a problem with your match, the match may not be valid and might be removed from the ladder. YOU HAVE BEEN FOREWARNED!

  • There have been multiple cases of people creating more than one account already -- and some of them are joining multiple clans at the same time (smurfing). Please note: even if you do not join another clan on a new account, this is still not allowed. Each user is limited to one account per user on this site.

CONSIDER THIS YOUR FORMAL WARNING: If you create more than one account on this site, your accounts WILL be disabled for an undetermined amount of time. If you continue to create additional accounts after account disabling, you run the risk of permanent ban from the system.

If you currently have more than one account, chances are you've already been spotted and simply not dealt with yet. To alleviate any consequences at this time, you'd be best off notifying me via IRC (irc.gamesurge.net - #baboviolent - I usually idle as "rage" or "ryan" or any derivative of those names) of your account names and which account you would like to have kept active, and I will disable the other accounts. If you have played ladder matches under one of your accounts, that is the account that will remain active.

Moral of the story: Pick an account name and stick with it.

  • Functionality has (finally) been added to retrieve a lost password associated with the email account you specified when you created your account. Instead of creating an additional account, use this to fetch your lost password if you have forgotten it. I will code a page to change that will allow users to change their password soon.

  • And finally, user accounts and clans that are inactive will be "cleaned" from the site. There are over 4000 user accounts on this site, and numerous clans that have been registered. If a user account has no stats or has not been logged into at all or within a certain period of time (yet to be determined), it will be disabled/deleted to clean things up. If a clan has fewer than 4 members, it will be disabled/deleted as well. If you have created a clan you fully intend on competing with, do your recruiting now or you'll have to re-create it. Please only use the clan management functionality if you fully intend on creating a clan that you will recruit people into and possibly compete with. I have no problems with a few friends wanting to be grouped together, but unless you intend on competing with your friends under the clan you make, there is little to no point in creating a clan on this system -- just wear the same tags in game or something.

Ladder is here??? No fscking way!

Well, here we go... lets see how she rolls!

Have your clan leader join your squad onto the ladder today!

Also, though I've tried to test this to the best of my ability, and though there has been a lot of work to try to make the game servers stable, there is always a chance that something can go wrong. So at least for a while, I *highly* suggest someone keep a console log of all their ladder matches till we have some games on the ladder and can ensure things are working well on the large scale. If you don't keep logs of your matches and something goes wrong, I apologise in advance, but you were forewarned -- and the match will be as if it did not occur.

Just a bit of news... I believe we've finally finalized our stat format, and as such, any stats tracked in the public stat tracking servers should remain from here on out.

Also, with this complete, I'll probably do one final test on the clan match functionality (since there were modifications due to stat format changes), and if all goes well, we should be able to officially launch the ladder functionality of the site today (Saturday 9/22).
